Dennis Kane comes to compassionate hospice care through a path of personal experience. A two-time cancer patient as a child, he was the grateful recipient of the comfort provided by caring professionals. Not expected to survive after one particularly intense surgery, he vowed to himself that if he did live, he wanted his life to have meaning. This ultimately led him to a career in nursing. When hospice gained favorable stature in Europe and then began to appear in this country, the health care provider he worked for tapped him to develop their home hospice program. They chose Dennis because of his exceptional technical skill and ability to communicate with patients and their families.

Personal experience did not end there for Dennis. When his mother’s cancer reached its end end-stage, he was able to participate during her hospice care. Only a few years later, his favorite aunt also succumbed to cancer and insisted that Dennis work with her hospice provider and manage her pain treatment.

Dennis has been involved with hospice since the late 1980’s. He, consults with hospice patients and their families on hospice issues, and is a frequent speaker on developments in hospice to professional health organizations. He is also a Certified Grief Counselor who works with hospice patients and families, and the families of hospice patients who have passed on.
